FC Raven emerges winner of RCCG Cup in Ogun State.
A GRASSROOTS soccer competition organized by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Hope of Glory parish LP28 tagged: Jesus on the football pitch, kicked off in Ogun recently.
FC Raven team have won the final match played at GTech field, Simawa. In a fiercely competitive final played on Sunday. Many teams participated from Mowe, Ibafo, simawa, Redemption city.
FC Raven defeated Brandford City FC to win the trophy after the game ended 4-1. FC Raven won the championship and took home the famous trophy as well as a cash award of #300 000.
Brandford City FC, who finished second, received a cheque for #200,000 for their efforts. Future Bright FC, who finished third, received a cheque for #100,000, there were other individual awards for the best player of the tournament, best goalkeeper and highest goal scorer.
A total of 12teams participated in the six weeks long football competition held in Simawa area of Ogun State.
The organizer, Assistant Pastor Adeniyi Ifetayo said he is satisfied with the outcome of the tournament, and promised the next edition will be bigger.
“A man that is sick cannot play football, as part of CSR of RCCG and mega star media communication, we are reaching out to the youths, lets develop our youth, there is an adage that says the idle hands is the devil’s workshop. so we just want to engage them positively, let them use their talents and nurture it.
Charging the youths to remain focused in order to maximise their potentials, Adeniyi, said: “The tournament is a drive to discover and develop talents from the competition. Success begins with a step, these young talents have the opportunity to make a career for themselves if they so desired. Everything is a choice, we have provided the platform our intention is to support them and make them stay in the right path.”
Also explaining reason for the competition, RCCG Provincial Pastor Lagos Province 28, Pastor Bola Orekoya, said: “What the competition is all about is to discover youths that have talents from the grassroots. We are looking at a competition like the Principal Cup played by the secondary school students”.
“The junior students don’t have such competition, so what happens if they are talented? How are they exposed and how are they discovered? So, we are using this opportunity to unearth talents.”
