Nasarawa Begins Disbursement of N394.5m Bursary Award

The Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, Friday flagged off the disbursement of 2022/2023 bursary award to over 10,000 state indigenes in tertiary institutions.
While flagging off the disbursement in Lafia, Sule said a total sum of N394,559,694. 41 had been approved and would be disbursed to over 10,000 students in various institutions of learning.
The governor, however, said considering the current economic reality, government considered it necessary for the upward review of the allowances to 50%.
He reiterated the commitments of his administration to continue to prioritize the educational sector in the state.
“This is based on our conviction that building sound and quality education enhances social and economic development of any society,” the governor maintained.
He said the gesture was part of his administration’s sustained effort to support and ease the financial burden of parents and students.
Sule, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Aliyu Ubandoma, said in 2020/2021, over 8,000 students benefitted from the bursary allowance from the state government
He, however, called on the beneficiaries to make judicious use of their allowances to support their educational purposes.
Speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Scholarship Board, Sa’adatu Yahaya, appreciated the governor for his effort in sustaining the regular provision of bursary allowance to students studying in various tertiary Institutions.
She said the gesture would not only enhance their academic performance, but would infuse in them a sense of patriotism as a reciprocation of government’s support.
“We are, indeed, indebted to your benevolence and generosity. This is unprecedented and we will never forget this generosity accorded to our dear students in the state,” she stated.
