NSE President Advocates Innovative Solutions in Pipeline Management

The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers ( NSE), Margaret Aina Oguntala, has reiterated its commitment towards promoting innovative solutions and best practices in pipeline management.
Oguntala who made this known, recently,
at the 2024 Nigerian International Pipeline Technology and Security Conference (NIPITECS), held in Abuja.
The conference, which gathered key stakeholders from government, industry, and academia,had the theme, ‘Pipelines – Critical Assets for National Economic Development and Environmental Sustainability’.
It served as a crucial platform for driving Nigeria’s pipeline infrastructure agenda, ensuring that it continues to support both national economic development and environmental preservation.
In her keynote, she urged all stakeholders, including government, industry players, and regulators, to prioritise safety, sustainability, and collaboration.
Represented by the NSE Vice President Corporate Services, Dr. Felicia Agubata, the president highlighted the critical role of pipelines in Nigeria’s energy sector.
According to her” pipelines are not only crucial for energy transportation, but also for job creation, industrialisation, and supporting key infrastructure projects in sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and education. Proper pipeline management, she noted, is vital for energy security and economic diversification.”
She also addressed environmental sustainability, urging the adoption of advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence ( AI), real-time monitoring systems, and predictive analytics to ensure pipeline integrity.
The president stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to mitigate risks such as vandalism, leaks, and oil theft, which could jeopardise both the economy and the environment.
“There is a need for enhanced security measures and better monitoring systems to protect these critical assets,” Oguntala stated.
