President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for productivity in tertiary institutions through funding and infrastructural support.
This was as he called for impactful education that would bring about sustainable development in the country.
The president, who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Ahmed, said this recently at the 36th convocation ceremony of Yaba College of Technology, where 8,139 students graduated in the 2022/2023 academic session.
Tinubu, who challenged the graduating students, said over the years, YABATECH has achieved significant milestones in the area of entrepreneurial development, playing a crucial role in Nigeria’s drive for job creation and economic growth.
He noted that the college’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurial skills among its students has greatly enhanced the nation’s capacity for innovation and self-reliance.
He urged the management and staff of the college to reposition and encourage impactful education that will bring about sustainable development in the country.
The president advised the graduating class to build on the strong foundation of various skills acquired at the college.
He also advised them to build a strong foundation and leverage their acquired skills for professional growth and societal impact.
He called for a strong partnership between key stakeholders in the educational sector that will drive innovation and job creation.
The program featured the conferment of fellowship awards on the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abass. In his response, Abbas disclosed that the parliament would devise a bill to criminalise the HND-BSc dichotomy in the country.
The first lady said education is the cornerstone for her personal growth, saying she considered the award a challenge that will continue to inspire “my efforts to uplift others for our nation’s greater good and development.”
She donated the sum of N50,000,000 as an endowment fund for the overall best graduating female student of Yaba College of Technology.
