A team of four students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has emerged as the winners of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Society Nigerian universities ethics challenge.
The students came first from the top eight school finalists after brilliantly defending a case study that borders on ethics in the real world before a panel of judges.
The UNILAG team comprised Nyoho Daniel, Oluokun Bolaji, Oladipo Gbenisola and Chukwudi Onwuachumba.
Students from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and Covenant University came in second and third position respectively.
This year’s competition was the seventh edition and saw 28 schools across the country participating through CFA’s investment club in their schools.
Speaking at the event, the President of CFA Society Nigeria, Ibukun Oyedeji, said that the challenge came about because the society realised that a lot more ethical values need to be imbibed in the professionals in the industry.
For the Executive Director of CFA Society Nigeria, Yemi Ajagun, ethics is at the core of what they do as a professional body.
He said that the competition was their way of instilling the values in the young ones to make them familiar with how to conduct themselves when they become professionals.
The Chief Executive Officer of First Bank Group, Olusegun Alebiosu, said the Nigeria Universities Ethics Challenge offers an extraordinary opportunity for students to grapple with real-world ethical dilemmas.
“With over 28 universities participating this year – up from just two universities in 2016 – this platform is indeed making a meaningful impact. To date, the initiative has provided mentorship opportunities, internships, and scholarships to over 1,000 students,” he said.
