OAP, Kayode Bakerr debuts with Fe Ran Mi

Kayode Bakerr’s path from a young singer in The Young David’s to a solo artist with global reach embodies the spirit of resilience and creativity. Through his music and leadership in the music distribution industry, he continues to push boundaries, shaping the future of African music with authenticity and vision.

Detailing how he transitioned from curating music for listeners to creating his own music he shares that, “I’ve always been a musician at heart, and that passion is what initially drew me to the radio and media industry. My goal was to use these platforms to connect with like-minded creatives and get my music out to the world. Over the years, I’ve built relationships in the industry that have shaped my journey, and going to film school was a deliberate step to enhance my storytelling through music videos. My song centers around love, a theme that has always resonated with me. It’s not just about romantic love but also the universal connections that bind us. Musically, it’s a fusion of highlife and Afrobeat, enriched with a touch of R&B to create a unique sound that reflects both my roots and my growth as an artist.”

Kayode’s latest singles, Fe ran mi highlight his evolution as an artist and his ability to seamlessly blend genres. Each track showcases his remarkable storytelling ability and heartfelt lyricism, solidifying his place in the Afrobeat and global music landscape. These songs are available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, Boomplay, YouTube Music, SoundCloud, and over 50 other stores worldwide.

Talking about his creative process he shares that, “I’d describe the process as experimental yet intentional. For this track, we focused on blending live instrumentation with contemporary production to create something authentic and dynamic. Live instruments like the bass and lead guitar, saxophone, and trumpet play a major role, adding a rich, organic quality that embodies the essence of highlife and Afrobeat. While the process felt seamless, there was a deliberate effort to maintain the song’s authenticity and connect it to my cultural roots. It’s a piece that feels alive, and I hope listeners feel the joy and passion we poured into it.”

As co-founder of The Music Distro Company, Kayode is committed to empowering other artists to distribute their music globally. Collaborating with United Masters, The Music Distro Company distributes his own work and serves as a platform for emerging artists looking to share their voices on an international stage. Through this initiative, Kayode not only shares his music but also supports the dreams of many others, amplifying African music worldwide.
