An entrepreneur and renowned author, Dr. Nduka Alum, has said that part of reasons why Nigeria continues to struggle is because women have not had the opportunity to occupy top positions that can allow them make decisions for the country.

Alum made this known yesterday in Enugu during the unveiling and launching of his books, Behind the Doors of Fate and the Girl Child, two stories focusing on the importance of equal opportunity for male and female children in a world that has limited prospects for all.

In his address, Alum said that for far too long, men had occupied positions of authority, yet, there had not been significant changes in terms of service delivery to the citizens due largely to corruption.

He noted that although women also had the tendency to be corrupt, they understand better where the people feel the pain as they constantly interact in the market and other public gatherings.

“If given equal opportunities as the men, I can assure that our women will cause a change in the society.

“We have some of them who occupy top positions, we can see what they are doing”.

He explained that his decision to focus on the girl child was informed by the need to educate families on the importance of supporting their girl child to fulfil their potentials, adding that there was the need to give everyone equal opportunities.

“I wanted to tell the success stories of many women who were oppressed yet stood their ground and emerged victorious,” he said.
