NYSC Calls for Renovation of Katsina Dilapidated Male Hostels
Francis Sardauna in Katsina
The Katsina State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Ibrahim Saidu, has reiterated his call for the state government to renovate the dilapidated male hostels in the camp.
Saidu, who made the appeal Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream I corps members deployed in the state, said the rehabilitation of the male hostels was tardy.
He said due the climbing population of corps members deployed in the state annually, there is also an urgent need for additional hostels and administrative block for camp officials and security agencies.
The state NYSC coordinator asserted that: “In some cases, corps members stay under the sun during lectures and other social activities”, due to lack of adequate tents and other makeshift shelters.
“Sir (Governor Dikko Umaru Radda), due to the ever-increasing corps population deployed to Katsina State every service year, there is dire need for additional hostel blocks for camp officials, as well as the construction of an administrative block.
“The administrative block will house the office of the camp commandant, head of police and other collaborating agencies during the orientation course programme,” Saidu said.
He added that: “The renovation of male hostels in the camp is equally long overdue. In some cases your excellency, corps members stay under the sun during lectures and other social activities.”
In his remarks, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda admonished the over 1,000 corps members deployed in the state to shun political and religious intolerance during and after their service year.
Radda, represented by the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Aliyu Lawal Zakari, was however reticent about the demands of the NYSC during his speech.
