Minimum Wage: Katsina NLC Leaders Walks Out of Meeting with Govt’s Committee
Francis Sardauna in Katsina
Representatives of the organised labour in Katsina State yesterday evening stormed out of a meeting with the State Government Committee on the implementation of the N70,000 national minimum wage.
Katsina is among states that are yet to comply with the 2024 National Minimum Wage Act.
The closed-door meeting, which commenced at about 3:05p.m, was held at the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Faskari, to fine-tune the payment of the new minimum wage.
The irate labour members who left the venue of the meeting at the state secretariat at about 4:45pm, declined to speak with journalists who approached them for comments.
But a source privy to the meeting told THISDAY that there was disagreement between members of the NLC and government officials during the last-minute negotiation meeting.
“During the meeting, both the NLC and government officials agreed on payment of N71,000 as minimum wage to all workers in the state. But there was disagreement between the government and NLC officials on who should benefit more.
“Government officials suggested that workers from level one to 10 should be fully paid, while those from level 10 and above should be given certain percentages. That’s why they (NLC) left.”
