The five-day event, which kicked off on Thursday, November 28, and runs till Tuesday, December 3, at Teal Culture’s Victoria Island showroom, offers art enthusiasts a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in beautiful works of art.
According to Folakemi Oloye, CEO of Teal Culture, the Lagos Art Salon aims to bridge the gap between artists, galleries, and art enthusiasts.
“We want to make art relatable and accessible to everyone,” she said. “We believe that art should be a part of our daily lives, and not just something that we see in galleries or museums”, she noted.
The event features a diverse collection of artworks from resident and new exhibitors, including upcoming and seasoned artists. Art enthusiasts can expect to see stunning pieces on display, including works on rice paper, canvas, oil, acrylic, and sculpture.
Oloye emphasised the importance of art investment, stating that art is a fantastic way to invest, as it is a good store of value.
“Art is not just a beautiful piece to hang on your wall,” she said. “It’s also a valuable investment that can appreciate over time.”
The Lagos Art Salon offers attendees the opportunity to purchase or commission artworks.
Oloye revealed that some artworks had already been sold, and there were opportunities for attendees to commission custom pieces.
“We’re not just selling art,” she said, adding, “We are creating a community of art enthusiasts who can come together to appreciate and celebrate Nigerian art.”
Teal Culture plans to make the Lagos Art Salon a regular event, with plans to expand beyond its current space. “We are committed to promoting Nigerian art and providing a platform for artists to showcase their work,” Oloye said.
Oloye also shared her vision for the Lagos Art Salon, stating that she hopes to create a platform that showcases the best of Nigerian art. “We want to create a space where art enthusiasts can come together to appreciate and celebrate Nigerian art,” she said.
