‘My Niger Delta Roots Inspire My Sound’ — Khing Koded on New EP ‘Believer’

Niger Delta-born Afrobeat artist Khing Koded, also known as David Eghagha, has released his highly anticipated EP, Believer, coinciding with his 24th birthday.

The three-track project, now available on major streaming platforms, reflects themes of growth, resilience, and cultural pride, solidifying his position as one of Nigeria’s most promising Afrobeat talents.

“My Niger Delta roots are a huge part of my music. The vibrant culture, the stories, and the rhythms of the Delta inspire my sound and lyrics. In Believer, I draw on these influences to create something authentic and true to my heritage,” he said.

In a chat with journalists, Khing Koded described the EP as a blend of traditional and modern Afrobeat elements, showcasing his creativity and commitment to pushing the boundaries of the genre.

“Afrobeat is constantly evolving, and I aim to contribute by blending traditional sounds with modern elements,

“In Believer, I’ve experimented with new rhythms and production techniques to push the boundaries while keeping the essence of Afrobeat alive,” he stated.

Since his debut in 2022 with the single Dey Alright and his 2023 EP E Don Done, Khing Koded has gained recognition for his captivating rhythms and storytelling. His latest project, available on all major streaming platforms, highlights his evolution as an independent artist and his dedication to representing the vibrant culture of Delta State.

He explained, “The themes of growth and resilience in Believer come from my personal experiences

“Over the past year, I’ve faced challenges that have pushed me to evolve not just as an artist but as an individual. This EP reflects those changes and my journey of staying true to myself.”

The EP’s release follows a year of personal challenges for the artist, who has embraced the freedom and constraints of being an independent musician.

“Being an independent artist comes with challenges like limited resources for promotion and production. However, it also gives me creative freedom. I’ve learned to be resourceful and rely on my team and fan base to support and spread the word,” he noted.

Khing Koded also emphasized the cultural importance of his work.

“Representing the Delta State culture is crucial for me. I incorporate local dialects, stories, and sounds to honor my roots and share the beauty of my culture with the world.”

With plans for new music, visuals, collaborations, and a tour, Khing Koded hopes to connect even more deeply with his fans.

“I hope my fans find inspiration and strength in Believer. It’s about believing in oneself despite the odds, and I want my audience to feel empowered and connected through the music,” he added.
