Women Affairs Minister, Others Participate at Ongoing 11th South Africa-Nigeria Bi-National Commission Meeting
Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim is actively participating at the ongoing 11th South Africa-Nigeria Bi-National Commission (BNC) meeting from 28 November to 3rd December 2024.
As Co-Chair of the Social Sectoral Committee, the Minister of Women Affairs, said she plans to strengthen cooperation between both nations in critical areas, including youth development, women empowerment, child development, cultural collaboration, education, and tourism.
This session aims to consolidate and make progress on decisions from the 2022 Ministerial Mid-Term Review, ensuring stronger ties and impactful collaboration.
The Minister was joined by her South African counterpart, Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities , Ms. Sindisiwe Lydia Chikunga, to agree on specific terms of cooperation that will benefit women, children youth and persons with disabilities in both Countries.
Nigeria’s delegation to the ministerial meeting includes minister of Women Affairs Andrew minister of Humanitarian Affairs. Also on the delgation were ministers of state for Foreign Affairs, defence, industry, trade and investments, agriculture and food security, communication, innovation and digital economy, and the comptroller-general, Nigeria Immigration Service.
This year’s Bi-National Commission marks the 25th anniversary of the framework, established to strengthen ties between Africa’s two leading economies.
The Ministerial meeting is a precursor to Tuesday’s presidential BNC, where President Bola Tinubu and President Cyril Ramaphosa will jointly lead discussions and adopt frameworks for Nigeria- South Africa cooperation.
