Kwara Agog as Artists Set to Participate in Made-in-Ilorin Art Exhibition

Kwara state capital, Ilorin is now beehive of activities as the “Made in Ilorin Art Exhibition commences with hundreds of artists set to participate in the exhibition.

The bid according to the organiser is meant to change the narrative and position Ilorin on the national and global art map.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin, Monday, on the event, its facilitator the Manager of the Mindspace Centre, Mr. Adewemimo Oloyede, stated that, the exhibition will feature exceptional works by talented artists living and working in Ilorin and is aiming to highlight their creativity and contributions to the Nigerian art scene.

According to Oloyede, the inspiration for the exhibition stems from the lack of recognition Ilorin-based artists receive on the national stage”.

He said, “Ilorin doesn’t get its due in the art world, and we want to change that narrative.

“The spotlight on Lagos has unfortunately overshadowed the immense talents across other parts of the country.

“We want to take control of the narrative and showcase the brilliance of Ilorin art community”.

Oloyede emphasized that the exhibition was not merely about displaying artwork but is designed as an immersive experience to engage the entire Ilorin community.

Oloyede added that, “Special focus days will cater to various groups, including schools, social clubs, government executives, and corporate organizations such as the Bank of Industry.

“These engagements aim to spark dialogue, inspire creativity, and foster connections between artists and the broader community.

“The goal is to make the Made in Ilorin Art Exhibition an annual event, creating a sustainable platform where Ilorin-based artists are celebrated and the world is invited to witness their genius”.

By establishing this tradition, Oloyede envisions Ilorin becoming a hub for artistic talent, gaining recognition on both national and global art stages.

He also highlighted the significant benefits the exhibition could bring to the local community.

He noted that, “By attracting visitors from within and outside Ilorin, the event is expected to boost local businesses, including those in hospitality, retail, and tourism.

“Workshops and interactive sessions with artists will provide young people with opportunities to explore careers in art and creativity, while showcasing Ilorin’s cultural richness will foster pride in the city’s heritage and strengthen its sense of identity.

“The exhibition will also serve as a platform for collaborations between artists, collectors, and industry stakeholders, opening doors to future projects and investments and this project is fueled by passion,”

Oloyede said. “We believe in the power of art to transform societies and foster unity.
