UniAbuja, UNILAG, UNILORIN, and AAUA to Battle in Football Law Annual Moot Finals

Four of Nigeria’s leading universities—University of Abuja (UniAbuja), University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), and Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA)—are set to compete in the grand finale of the prestigious Football Law Annual Moot (FLAM).

Scheduled for Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 10:00 AM, the final will take place at the NICON Luxury Hotel in Abuja. It promises to be a showcase of intellectual rigor and sports law expertise as the teams tackle this year’s theme, “The FIFA Clearing House Rules: The Journey So Far for African Training Clubs.”

A Rigorous Path to the Finals
The journey to the finals has been an intense and competitive one. Over 30 universities expressed interest in the competition, but only 18 were shortlisted to submit legal briefs, analyzing complex football law issues.

After a rigorous evaluation process, 14 universities advanced to the next stage, where mooting sessions and debates further tested their legal acumen. The field narrowed to eight quarterfinalists, and ultimately, UniAbuja, UNILAG, UNILORIN, and AAUA emerged as the top contenders.

A Grand Finale and More
The grand finale will challenge participants to demonstrate their mastery of FIFA’s new regulations on financial transparency in club transfers. This topic holds particular relevance for African training clubs navigating the evolving landscape of global football governance.
