The alumni association, Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has expressed confidence in the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, and dismissed allegations made by the Ben Faleye’s caucus of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), FUOYE branch against the VC.

In a statement by the FUOYE alumni’s president, Mr. Temitope Arogundade, the association said the allegations presented, encompassing assertions of sexual harassment, intimidation, and mismanagement, “are entirely baseless and clearly the result of individuals seeking to create discord.”

“Under the guidance of Professor Fasina, FUOYE has undergone an impressive transformation marked by significant growth and advancement. In the last three years, the university has achieved remarkable progress in enhancing academic standards, boosting research output, and expanding its physical infrastructure,” stated the alumni.

According to the statement, Fasina has been at the forefront of a significant transformation of the university’s infrastructure alongside his academic and research leadership.

“The Alumni Association stands firmly behind Professor Fasina, affirming our steadfast confidence in his leadership capabilities,” noted the statement. “The recent claims put forth by the Faleye-led caucus of SSANU FUOYE lack substance and serve merely to divert attention from the significant advancements achieved during his leadership.”

It also mentioned that it “is profoundly disheartening to witness the emergence of baseless allegations from individuals who, instead of acknowledging the vice-chancellor’s achievements, opt to pursue personal grievances.”

The university’s alumni asked the university’s governing council, the Federal Ministry of Education, and the National Universities Commission (NUC) “to dismiss these unfounded allegations and to maintain their support for Prof. Fasina as he guides FUOYE to even greater achievements,” pointing out that under his leadership, the university “has achieved significant milestones, making it essential for us to concentrate on furthering these successes instead of getting distracted by trivial political matters.”

The association said it would continue to “uphold the principles of innovation, integrity, transparency, accountability, and transformation that Prof. Fasina has advocated for over the years in office.”
