Winners Emerge at DOAM Foundation Debate Contest

Danvic Leaders School, Kirikiri, Apapa has emerged the winner of the 2024 edition of the DOAM Foundation inter-school debate competition, aimed at ensuring that students imbibe confidence and critical thinking culture, and to open their eyes to the benefits of social media if it is properly utilized.

The school scored 89 points and beat three others to smile home  with a plaque and a wall clock, as well as other exciting prizes.  

Great Trinity College  and Real Harmony, also within Kirikiri, Apapa, scored 87 and 79 points respectively, to clinch the second and third positions. 

Speaking on the  topic, ‘The Impact of  Social Media/Internet on Students’ Wellbeing’, the competition saw the students going head to head, with some of them explaining the benefits of social media and the internet while the others opposed the motion. 

The Programme Officer, Education, Bukunmi Osunsina, explained that the focus of the debate was to mitigate the risks involved with the use of social media platform while encouraging the students to concentrate more on the positive impact.

All the debaters got certificates of participation and consolation prices.

The Vice-Principal of the Great Trinity College, Mrs. Martha Sunday, commended the foundation for its initiative, saying, “the programme will be replicated among other schools as a means of disseminating the vital information on the impacts of social media on students’ wellbeing.”

The programme touched 130 lives including students, teachers and guests from Goodness in Every Woman Foundation, and was supported by Niger Biscuit Company Limited, Sonhart Industries, and Crown Pack Industries.
