US Envoy Commends Aliyu 9-Points Agenda

The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Richard Mills, has said that the 9-point smart agenda priorities of Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto will be supported as strategic drivers for the advancement of the welfare and well-being of citizens in the state and Nigeria.

He noted that they were critical drivers of transformation in the areas of security, health, education, skills training and acquisition for youths empowerment .

Speaking Thursday in Sokoto, Mr. Mills, who paid a courtesy call on the governor, said the US would support the state government in enhancing the lives of citizens and the preservation of the Caliphate’s cultural heritage for socio-economic development.

He explained that his visit to the state was to have direct mutual and beneficial conversation with traditional and religious leaders in view of Sokoto State cultural and traditional standing in Nigeria.

Responding, Governor  Aliyu while appreciating and thanking the US envoy on the visit, acknowledged support by the United States to  Sokoto through various intervention projects under USAID.

However, the governor solicited for more support in the areas of healthcare services, agriculture, youth and women empowerment, poverty reduction among other critical human related aspects.

Hitherto, while explaining to Mills on the security situation in the state, Aliyu said that law enforcement agencies were fast bracing against security challenges adding that the state government had provided 150 vehicles for operatives to enhance their services beside other logistics. 

According to the governor, “We also  established a Community Security Watch to complement the conventional security agencies as a measure to further protect lives and property of citizens with respect for human rights and dignity.”
