Arisekola Pens Emotional Tribute To Late DIG Lamorde
Businessman and publisher of The Street Journal Magazine, Mogaji Wole Arisekola has penned an emotional tribute to the late former Economic & Finacial Crimes Commission’s Chairman, Deputy Inspector General Ibrahim Larmode.
Recall that Larmode reportedly died in Egypt at the age of 61, where he had travelled for medical treatment.
Mourning Larmode, Arisekola described his loss as a giant Iroko tree that had fallen in the forest.
He said, “A giant Iroko tree has fallen in the forest, and the entire jungle has been left in disarray, never to remain the same again. This year, we have lost men and women of great substance—people whose memories linger like whispers in the wind, refusing to fade into oblivion. Among these profound losses is the passing of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ibrahim Larmode, a man whose life and contributions were nothing short of extraordinary.
“DIG Larmode’s death did not come merely as a rude shock; it struck like a thunderclap, sending ripples of grief across the country. It is a colossal loss, one that feels too heavy to bear, leaving a void that seems impossible to fill. A man of impeccable character and unyielding dedication, he stood as a pillar of strength and a beacon of hope for countless individuals.
“Born with an indomitable spirit and raised with values rooted in discipline and compassion, DIG Ibrahim Larmode exemplified what it meant to live a life of purpose. His career in law enforcement spanned decades, during which he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues, subordinates, and the public. He was more than an officer; he was a mentor, a leader, and a friend to many.
“To know DIG Larmode was to know integrity in its purest form. His commitment to justice was unwavering, and his passion for ensuring the safety of the nation was unmatched. His leadership style was both firm and empathetic, a rare combination that endeared him to all who worked with him.”
He added that 2024 has been a harsh year that saw the demise of “exceptional individuals” who had a meaningful impact on the progress of society.
Larmode stated, “This year has been particularly harsh, robbing us of exceptional individuals whose lives were intertwined with the progress and unity of our society. Yet, among these losses, DIG Larmode’s passing feels uniquely devastating. It is a reminder that greatness, no matter how enduring, is still fleeting.
“He was not just a law enforcement officer; he was a symbol of hope, a guardian of peace, and a protector of the voiceless. His legacy is one that will continue to inspire generations to come, urging us to strive for excellence and serve with humility.
“As we mourn his departure, we also celebrate the life he lived—a life that was rich with purpose and filled with countless acts of kindness and courage. His death is not the end of his story but the beginning of a legacy that will forever remain etched in our hearts.
“The entire nation feels the weight of his absence. His colleagues, family, and friends are left grappling with the enormity of their loss. Yet, amidst the tears and sorrow, there is a collective resolve to honour his memory by upholding the values he stood for.”
Speaking further, Arisekola noted that Larmode was a man who believed in unity and the dignity of leadership through service.
He added, “DIG Larmode was a man who believed in the power of unity and the strength of community. He taught us that true leadership is about service, and true service is about sacrifice. His life reminds us that one person, with courage and determination, can make a difference in the world.
“Today, we bid farewell to a hero, a legend, and a friend. The void he leaves behind is immeasurable, but the light he brought into our lives will never dim. Rest in peace, DIG Ibrahim Larmode. Your legacy will live on, and your memory will forever be cherished.
“Adieu, the mighty Iroko. May your soul find eternal rest. We are waiting for the day that we will meet not to part again my brother. May Allah continue to rest your soul and make Aljannah Fidau your resting abode. Amen.”
