House: We’re Committee to Support Marine, Blue Economy Ministry to Grow Maritime Sector

The House of Representatives has reiterated its commitment to support the Ministry of Marine and the Blue economy in its effort to grow the maritime sector.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Shipping Services, Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki gave the assurance on Monday in Abuja during an oversight visit to the ministry headed by Gboyega Oyetola.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the chairman emphasised the legislative role in shaping Nigeria’s maritime policies and ensuring sustainable growth in the sector.

His words: “Our meeting focused on strengthening collaboration, particularly on the Nigerian Shipping and Port Economic Regulatory Agency Bill, which has been passed by both chambers of the National Assembly.

“We also reviewed policy frameworks being developed by the Ministry to support the blue economy agenda.

“This was an opportunity to put heads together and identify areas for mutual support. The Committee remains steadfast in its resolve to support the Ministry’s efforts to grow the maritime sector and by extension, the national economy.”

On his part, the minister applauded the Committee for its critical role in advancing the Nigerian Shipping and Port Economic Regulatory Agency Bill.

Oyetola highlighted the significance of the blue economy as a key driver for Nigeria’s economic growth.

He also reiterated the government’s commitment to creating enabling frameworks for its development.

Oyetola stated: “Let me first of all commend the Committee; they have been very cooperative. We met to discuss areas where deeper collaboration is needed. It was purely an interactive session to identify how we can do more together.

“I must commend them for their unwavering support, particularly in advancing the Nigerian Shipping and Port Economic Regulatory Agency Bill.”

“We explored areas requiring further support, and they have assured us of their readiness to collaborate and align efforts to achieve shared goals.”
