APC Begins Investigation into Bombing of Secretariat in Rivers

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has commenced investigation into the bombing of its secretariat in Rivers State on October 5, 2024.
The newly elected Chairman of APC in the state, Tony Okocha, who announced this yesterday while speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt, said a nine-member committee has been set up by the party leadership to unravel the cause of the attack.
Okocha stated that the committee is to be headed by the party’s Legal Adviser, Kelechi Nwuzi, notifying that it is expected to submit its report to the party within one month.
He explained that the essence is to unravel the remote and immediate causes of the bombing, saying that it was the second time the incident had occurred at the secretariat.
Okocha decried that the incident occurred the same period that local government secretariats were attacked after the LGAs elections in the state.
He said despite calls by the party, the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has refused to include the incident in the Commission of Inquiry set up by the state.
The APC chairman further stated that despite a police report signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirming the bombing of the secretariat, the state government is yet to recorgnise the incident.
“So for this meeting, my colleagues have asked that we address you to let you know that the governor has proven that the APC can go to hell. But as a party we will not go to hell.
“The essence of government is the protection of lives and property. We are here to tell Nigerians that we are still pained by the heinous and dastardly activities of people we do not know,” he said.
Okocha, while reiterating the importance of the resumption of production at the Port Harcourt refinery, stated that with the current exchange rate of the naira to the dollar, it will boost the economic well-being of the country.
THISDAY observed that other members of the committee include Bethel Samson (Secretary), Darlington Dike, Rex Nworgu, Abibo Tammy Bereniye, Dr. Theresa Chima, Dr Eunice Gam, Prince Obene, and Vincent Gbosi.
