Market Researchers Say Data Key to Economic Transformation

The Nigerian Marketing Research Association (NIMRA) has stressed that data collection is very crucial in the course of economic transformation and development.
Speaking at the annual general meeting (AGM) held in Lagos recently, themed ‘Rebuilding Better, Rebuilding Together,’ President of NIMRA, Seyi Adeoye, enlightened that the association is also very important to businesses, especially in terms of data and information.
“Not only in Nigeria, our industry has an impact, especially as regards data and information for good planning. We are the custodian of data inside analytics for the nation. We support businesses to make better decisions and growth. There is no way you want to start a business without data and information. And we are always here to fill the gap,” he said.
Adeoye explained that the association has not been functioning as expected but with the new executives on board which he is leading, a lot of transformation is underway.
“This is the first formal AGM. We have been a bit quiet for about four years but we are coming back together and ready to put up a better plan for the association. Like the theme of the meeting, and it going to take the whole village.
“We have been training market researchers and putting together the necessity to ensure the association achieves its aim. We are also ensuring we share the same vision and mission and to assemble all the big guys in the industry,” he said.
Chairman Event and Publicity Committee, NIMRA, Yemisi Makinde, said it is a family meeting that brings members of the association together to deliberate the way forward.
He said: “This is more like a family meeting. We are rebuilding because the association has been in limbo for several years. Fortunately, this year we have a new executive and we are rebuilding for the better. The plan was to organise this meeting to make accountable your members and how they can take the association forward.
“The truth remains that we don’t have continuity but it’s obvious that with this new regime, a lot of activities have been drafted to invite more people and also to improve the association.”
