School for Orphans, Indigents Wins Vbank, Lagos Kids Mini Marathon

The Fifth Chukker Primary School, a nursery and primary school in Kaduna that provides education for orphans and indigent children, emerged as the star of the Lagos Kids Mini Marathon in partnership with VFD Microfinance Bank, held in Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos State.

The school swept most of the prizes at the event, marking a significant achievement for the students and the institution.

As the headline sponsor of the competition, VFD Microfinance Bank, who was represented by the Head of Marketing, Mr. Bidemi Alfred emphasized VFD’s dedication to promoting a healthy lifestyle among children and fostering financial literacy through creative initiatives.

Alfred outlined exciting benefits for participants, announcing that children can qualify to win a trip to Hakuna Matata, gain access to the Upbeat Centre, and receive movie tickets as part of the bank’s festive season celebrations.

He encouraged parents to take advantage of these offers by downloading the VFD Microfinance Bank App, opening a child savings account, and funding it.

Alfred highlighted the bank’s favorable fixed deposit product, designed to help parents enjoy substantial returns on their investments during the season.

“Our revised rates are competitive and aligned with our mission to provide financial empowerment for families,” he said.

The Chairperson of the Lagos Kids Mini Marathon, Enitan Rewane, lauded the event as an opportunity to encourage children to be more active, noting the positive impact of sports on their mental health.

Rewane credited the participation of less privileged children to the support of internal and external sponsors, with VFD Microfinance Bank leading the charge.

Project Manager of Access Bank 5th Chukker Primary School, Mrs. Biodun Adegboye, expressed pride in her students’ grit and determination, sharing their journey of walking 5km to school daily and intensively training for the marathon. She noted that this was their first trip to Lagos and first time flying, making their victory even more remarkable.

“With over 6,000 children enrolled, the school is a testament to resilience and dedication, reflecting the true spirit of the Lagos Kids Mini Marathon. Thanks to VFD Microfinance Bank’s sponsorship, the event has set a new standard for inclusivity and celebration of young talent,” She said.
