My Intellectual Property Law Guide (MIPLG) celebrates a significant milestone as it marked its 5th anniversary of encouraging creativity and innovation, promoting intellectual property (IP) awareness and youth capacity development in Africa. The organization was founded in 2019 by Victoria Chigozirim Onyeagbako to support IP development in Africa.

In commemoration of its 5th anniversary and in partnership with the Nigerian Intellectual Property Club (NIPC), MIPLG held its IP for African Kids/Teens campaign across 5 States in Nigeria – Uyo, Ondo, Rivers, Edo and Delta State. Expressing optimism for this partnership, Chukwuemezie Charles Emejuo, the Executive Director of MIPLG shared that ‘the organization is dedicated to introduce the African child and youth to creativity, innovation, building respect for intellectual creations and empowering the next generation of innovators and creators’.

Notable Achievements

MIPLG sponsored the notable “IP for Kids/Youths Campaign”, the first of its kind in Africa which has sensitized over 400 African youth on creativity, innovation and building respect for intellectual creations, encouraging them to explore their intellectual potentials. The IP for Kids book was published by MIPLG in 2021 to inculcate basic knowledge of IP in the African child. Additionally, MIPLG has successfully contributed to the formation of over 20 intellectual property clubs in various tertiary institutions in Nigeria. MIPLG spearheaded the formation of the Nigerian Intellectual Property Club (NIPC), the national body of student IP Clubs in Nigeria.

Other accomplishments include organizing the annual MIPLG International Debate Competition, a project with a reach of over 1,000 students, awarding over 40 IP scholarships in 5 years to winning students, with the support of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Academy and other sponsors. Additionally, MIPLG significantly fills the void of IP mentorship in the African IP community with its annual Career Development and Mentorship Scheme (CDMS) which has coached over 122 mentees by seasoned mentors worldwide. The organization has successfully organized over 31 editions of the Personal Development Series, empowering IP professionals and enthusiasts, and has a comprehensive compendium of African IP Laws available on her website.
