Nwakuche Ndidi Appointed Acting Controller-General of Nigerian Correctional Service
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has appointed Nwakuche Sylvester Ndidi, MFR, mni, as the Acting Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
This appointment signals a commitment to advancing the country’s correctional system under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Born on November 26, 1966, in Oguta, Imo State, Nwakuche’s career in corrections spans over three decades. He began his journey in 1990 as an Assistant Superintendent of Corrections, rising through the ranks to his current position. His appointment is widely seen as a recognition of his extensive experience, innovative leadership, and dedication to justice and rehabilitation.
A product of rigorous academic and professional training, Nwakuche holds a B.A. in Theatre Arts from the University of Calabar, an M.Sc. in Political Science (International Relations) from the University of Lagos, and a Diploma in French Language. He is also a Member of the National Institute (mni) from NIPSS Kuru and is pursuing a PhD in Security and Strategic Studies.
Throughout his career, Nwakuche has served in various key roles, including Technical Assistant to the Presidency on Correctional Service Matters and Deputy Controller-General in charge of Training and Staff Development. His leadership in training has been instrumental in equipping correctional officers with the skills needed to meet modern challenges in the sector.
His accomplishments have been recognized with the national honor of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR). Outside his professional commitments, Nwakuche is a sports enthusiast and avid reader who enjoys golf, soccer, table tennis, and traveling.
Under his leadership, the Nigerian Correctional Service is expected to implement innovative rehabilitation models, enhance staff welfare, and strengthen security in correctional facilities across the nation.
