Charlene Makai Receives Fellowship Award for Corporate Service
Charlene Charmwakat Makai, a dedicated human development and policy specialist, has been honoured with the Fellowship Award by the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria. This recognition celebrates her dedication and commitment to service, visionary approach to business intelligence and administration, professionalism, and public-spiritedness.
Charlene’s work spans key areas including strategic planning, organisational development, and policy implementation. She has played a critical role in mediating conflicts in Nigeria’s most fragile regions, promoting peace and social stability. Her initiatives have focused on empowering women and youth while driving corporate governance improvements with research-backed strategies.
While receiving the award, Charlene reflected on her journey and shared her gratitude. “I am deeply honoured to be awarded a fellowship by the Institute of Corporate Administration. This recondition inspires me to continue fostering excellence, integrity, and innovation in service to our communities and beyond.”
Her achievements include founding Empower Her 4 Africa( Empower Her for Sustainable Development Initiatives in Africa) an NGO focused on advancing education and economic opportunities for women and girls. Under her leadership, over 100 out-of-school girls have been enrolled in school between 2016, and 2024 countless women have gained skills for economic independence.
Charlene’s academic journey reflects her commitment to excellence. She holds a Master of Science in International Relations from the University of East London, a BA in History from the University of Maiduguri, and a certificate in Leadership and Digital Transformation from Texas Southern University Houston USA. Her professional roles include serving as Head of Protocol at the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, where she facilitated critical administrative and policy initiatives.
Charlene is a published author and co-author of several impactful works addressing critical issues such as education, gender empowerment, and conflict resolution. Her recent publications include AI Learning-Driven Optimisation of Microgrid Systems for Rural Electrification and Economic Empowerment (co-authored), Empowering Women in Agricultural Supply Chains: Unlocking Potential for Sustainable Development and Inclusive Growth( Co-authored) and Breaking Barriers: The Impact of Girls’ Education on Poverty Eradication in Northern Nigeria – A Focus on Sokoto State (Co-authored); Religio-Political Terrorism and the Ideological Roots of Boko Haram; “Terrorism in Nigeria: Exploring the Causes and the Rise of Boko Haram” and Beyond Security Failures: The Complexities of Addressing Boko Haram in Nigeria.” All are published in international journals
The Fellowship Award was presented on Saturday during the 2024 Corporate Executives Recognition Conference at Zuma Conference Hall, Green Minds Hotels, Abuja.
