Pre-dry Season Irrigation Farming: Ashiru Unveils Nine Tractors

The Managing Director/CEO of Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority (O-ORBDA), Dr. Adedeji Ashiru, has assured of food security in the South Western part of the country.

This is as he unveiled nine tractors procured for various projects under the Authority to mark pre-flag-off for dry season irrigation farming within the O-ORBDA’s catchment area, held at the Authority’s headquarters, Abeokuta, Ogun State recently.

According to him, “Today marks a significant milestone in our efforts to boost agricultural productivity and food security in Southwest Nigeria. We proudly commissioned nine tractors, marking the pre-flag-off for dry season irrigation farming within the O-ORBDA’s catchment area.

“This initiative is a testament to our commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda on food security. By enhancing irrigation systems and mechanized farming practices, we aim to increase crop yields, improve food availability, and stimulate economic growth in the region.”

Speaking further, he said, ” We’re excited to announce that an additional 15 tractors are expected to arrive by the end of January, further bolstering our efforts to transform the agricultural landscape in Southwest Nigeria.

“These tractors will play a vital role in promoting dry season irrigation farming, enabling farmers to cultivate their lands year-round and reducing dependence on rainfall. This, in turn, will contribute to increased food production, improved food security, and enhanced livelihoods for farming communities.

“Our commitment to food security aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes agriculture as a key driver of economic growth and development. By working together, we can create a more food-secure future for Nigeria and ensure that our citizens have access to nutritious and affordable food.”
