TRUMP’S TRIUMPH AND THE GLOBAL ACCEPTANCE OF MANIPULATED PRIVILEGE

By Lindsay Barrett

The unprecedented extent of Donald Trump’s victory as US President has installed the ascendancy of America’s imperialist tendencies globally, and ensuresthat he will be able to impose many of his whims and fantasies of power on public affairs both at home and abroad. Many questions of both qualification and relevance have been raised over several of his suggested appointees to important cabinet posts. These questions have exposed issues of whether his leadership objectives will be based on appropriate standards of professional ability or personal preferences, and whether his international policies will be based on the promotion of genuine popular representation of the public will and established territorial sovereignty. However, the presumptiveaspirations that he  expressed in his campaign as a candidate suggest that when he eventually assumes office he will be an authoritarian leader of extremely chauvinistic impulses. For example, his promise to execute the most wide-ranging deportation exercise ever carried out in a nation that is entirely based on immigration both historically and fundamentally proved to be the most cherished prediction in his arsenal. What this indicates is that as President he willattempt to create a governance profile that will isolaterather than harmonise America’s role in the global community. In order for this to work President Trump will have to standardize America’s role as a global economic bully in multiple areas of endeavour. His promise to institute prejudicial tariffs on world tradesignals that he will attempt to initiate that strategy as soon as he assumes office. Unfortunately, any such initiative could be counter-productive for the establishment of a successful presidential term for Trump. He might have to modify his natural instincts if his next term in office is to be stable especially since constitutionally he is limited to only one more term.

The world is awaiting the advent of January 20th2025, which promises to be a date of global significance especially for nations involved in international conflicts where American decisions are relevant. The standard of Israeli impunity has assumed continual relevance in the Middle East and has become the justification for a war of unforgiveable severity against the Palestinian people. The unqualified support of American policy without the recognition of valid restrictions based on humanitarian values or regular diplomatic restraint has provided the justification forthis conduct and it is believed that Donald Trump will not only continue this policy but will increase America’s support of Israeli impunity. He has also promised to change the trajectory of American alliances in global affairs in a manner of speaking and while this is not necessarily bad it is noticeable that his objective in making such pledges has been to promise the ascent of privileges and preferences for American endeavours rather than for the cooperative success of international initiatives. Ever since he won the election many members of the American public and the political establishment who had been skeptical over the prospects of being able to tolerate a second Trump termhave begun to come to terms with the reality. They have realised that Trump’s victory is actually a consolidation of the American system of representative governance which is based on the manipulation of privilege, and that he took advantage of his singularly dubious assets such as name recognition and racial conceit to win a dysfunctional triumph. In spite of the fact that his victory has established the relevance and survival of many of the most undesirable traits of manipulated privilege as the basis of governance, theglobal political elite will apparently tolerate and come to agreement with it. Already the American justice system has signaled its willingness to overlook the fact that Trump is a convicted felon and instead of sentencing him has granted him the right to rulewithout interference, and all the world’s leading administrations are following that example
