Entrepreneur Deji Olatunji reflects on Pioneering Nigeria’s AutoTech Industry

In a recent interview, Deji Olatunji, the founder of Mek Experts, shared his inspiring journey from a budding physicist to an innovative entrepreneur reshaping Nigeria’s automobile industry.

“My name is Deji Olatunji, and I’m an entrepreneur,” he began. But his story is far from ordinary. A graduate of Pure and Applied Physics from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, Deji’s career took an unexpected turn when he dropped out of his MSc program at the University of Lagos. “Life doesn’t always follow a straight line,” he explained, crediting his father, a successful car salesman, for inspiring his pivot into the automotive industry.

Deji started his career at Elizade (Toyota) Nigeria Limited, where he spent 12 years selling over 5,000 brand-new vehicles and managing high-end automobile workshops. Reflecting on those formative years, he shared, “I’ve always believed that faith, focus, and persistence can unlock any door. Time is our most precious resource, and I’ve built my life on the principle of never waiting for tomorrow to act on today’s opportunities.”

Today, Deji is the founder and CEO of Mek Experts, an AutoTech company that offers concierge car repair services and a trusted marketplace for buying and selling pre-owned vehicles. “At Mek Experts, client satisfaction is at the heart of everything we do. We emphasize transparency, affordability, and convenience,” he stated. The company provides door-to-door car repairs, onsite mechanical services, and extended warranties for vehicles. “We aim to revolutionize the industry by ensuring stress-free, high-quality automotive services nationwide.”

Deji’s entrepreneurial spirit was sparked early in life. Raised in a close-knit Christian family in Ketu, Lagos, he grew up learning the value of hard work from his parents, who transitioned from 9-to-5 jobs to successful business ventures. “My mum, once a teacher, became a plastic wholesaler with three thriving stores. My dad, a former Volkswagen salesman, built a business supplying engineering spare parts. They taught me that change isn’t to be feared but embraced,” he recounted.

Reflecting on his journey, Deji emphasized his drive to create meaningful impact. “My key motivation has always been to solve real problems, create opportunities, and leave a lasting legacy. For me, entrepreneurship isn’t just about business; it’s about innovation and contributing to society.”

Deji attributes his success to mentorship and key influencers throughout his career. “My parents were my first mentors, teaching me resilience and faith. Professionally, people like Mr. Olu Tikolo and Chief Michael Adeojo (Elizade) played pivotal roles in my development,” he revealed. He also credits visionaries like Mr. Sijibomi Ogundele (Sujimoto) for teaching him the power of social media branding, and Mr. Michael Shobukola (Strongmas) for instilling resilience. Also Engr. Odewale Abiodun (Cemex) imparted a priceless gift of wisdom

“Each of them left a mark on my life, shaping my character and career,” he said.
For Deji, entrepreneurship is about creating impact and leaving a legacy. “I wanted to solve real problems and create opportunities. My parents’ journey showed me that hard work and courage can redefine your destiny,” he said. Reflecting on his journey, Deji acknowledges the risks he took and the rewards they yielded. “Life doesn’t follow a straight line, but every detour has been an opportunity to grow and succeed.”
With Mek Experts, Deji Olatunji is not just building a business; he’s redefining the way Nigerians experience automotive services, making convenience, transparency, and reliability the new norm.
