The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has marked one year of impactful leadership under the stewardship of its Managing Director, Mr. Farouk Ahmed Umar.

A statement by the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of the agency, Dr. Abdullahi Musa, Tuesday, explained that the event was tagged ‘Staff Recognition Dinner for Impactful Leadership and Team Excellence.’

The event, which took place in Abuja, according to him, highlighted the agency’s milestones over the past year while honouring hardworking staff members for their dedication and contributions.

He explained that with the ‘Hardworking Staff Recognition Award Night,’ the evening went beyond simple appreciation.

Part of the statement read: “It was an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the exceptional efforts of hardworking staff, who were awarded for their diligence, commitment and vital contributions to the success of the agency.”

It explained that Farouk, the agency’s Managing Director, emphasised the significance of the awards.

He said: “The awards being presented tonight are not just plaques or certificates; they represent our appreciation for hard work, commitment and the kind of excellence that drives NAMA forward.

“To the recipients, I say congratulations. This recognition is not just a reward but a reminder that your efforts do not go unnoticed.

“Let this achievement inspire you to even greater contributions. To every other staff member, let these awards serve as a challenge because next year, it could be any of you here.”

Reflecting on NAMA’s achievements over the past year, Farouk highlighted key successes under his leadership.

He said there has been a remarkable reduction in Air Safety Reports, achieved through strict adherence to ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices, showcasing enhanced operational safety and efficiency.

On infrastructure development, Farouk identified the refurbishment of control towers in seven major airports, including Owerri, Sokoto and Ibadan, with plans underway to extend the effort to six more airports.

Talking on capacity building, the NAMA boss also identified investment in local and international training programmes for air traffic controllers, engineers and other personnel to align with global best practices.

On energy efficiency, he said the solar-powered systems had been upgraded to reduce operational costs and ensuring reliable energy supply to critical facilities.

He affirmed NAMA’s commitment to quality management, safety and continuous improvement.

On staff welfare, he said outstanding allowances had been cleared and that there is implementation of measures to ensure timely payment of staff dues and entitlements.

“Milestones like these don’t happen in isolation,” Farouk stated, applauding the support and dedication of his management team and staff.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director of Special Duty, Abba Ahmad and the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Dr. Abdullahi Musa, praised Umar for his visionary leadership.

They described his tenure as instrumental to NAMA’s tremendous growth and passed a vote of confidence while pledging continued support for his administration.

The evening featured a variety of activities, including games with exciting prizes, karaoke performances and dancing, creating a vibrant and celebratory atmosphere.

The staff expressed their excitement, gratitude and prayers for even greater achievements in the years ahead.

Umar, who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu on December 13, 2023, continues to lead the NAMA with a clear vision and unwavering commitment to operational excellence.
