Niger Assures Citizens of Adequate Security during Yuletide

Niger state Government has assured the people of adequate security of their lives and property during the forthcoming Christmas and New year celebrations.

The Commissioner for Homeland Security, Major General Bello Mohammed (rtd) who gave the assurance while exchanging views with newsmen in Minna yesterday  said everything had been put in place to ensure a hitch free celebration by the people.

General Mohammed said the government is collaborating with all the security agencies in the state for them to discharge their duties diligently and thereby achieve peaceful celebration for the people.

“We are collaborating with all the security agencies to enable them perform their duties the way they used to do, we are are also telling them to ensure the protection of all public property before, during and after the festivities,” he said..

The commissioner assured  the people that the relative peace existing in the state will be sustained adding that “ all flash points have been identified and will be protected.”

Mohammed, however, told the people that “security is everyone’s business” as such they should be alert and report any strange happenings in their communities to the law enforcement agents.

Commenting on the reported  attacks on residents of the M I Wushishi  Housing Estate in Minna, General Mohammed said: “ Everything is being done to bring the perpetrators to book insisting that “ the security agencies are on top of the situation.”

He, however, warned illegal miners that the government is closely watching their activities and will take necessary steps against them at the appropriate time.

Government, he said, has outlawed  illegal mining activities all over the state, anyone caught will be dealt with according to the law.
