A’ Ibom Speaker Celebrates Birthday, Pays Hospital Bills of Patients
As part of the programme marking his birthday anniversary the Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Elder Udeme Otong has visited hospitals in Akwa Ibom to offset bills of some patients.
The speaker visited Mercy Hospital in Abak Local Government accompanied by member representing Okobo State Constituency, Hon. Pius Bassey and Chairman, Abak Local Government, Hon Ime Charles. While receiving the speaker and his entourage, the Medical Director of Mercy Hospital Very Rev. Father (Dr) Canice Ekpo, said the hospital specialises in eye checking.
According to him, the hospital covers the entire state in its services and other states in the country.
He appreciated the speaker for offsetting bills of patients in the hospital, explaining that presence of the speaker speaks volume in the hospital with hope of better expectations.
Rev. Father Ekpo thanked the wife of the Speaker, Deacon Margaret Udene Otong for the encouragement and support to the husband and prayed for more of God’s blessings for the speaker and the family to enable them continue in their selfless services.
In his response, the Speaker, who expressed appreciation to the medical director informed him that he is a healthcare and social sciences professional.
He said his visit to the hospital was part of the event to mark his birthday and that he decided to go round some hospitals and touch lives by offsetting the bills of patients who couldn’t afford to settle them.
The speaker, who was conducted around some wards in the hospital while advising patients not to lose hope over any condition, further said that he was using his birthday season to appreciate God through settlement of hospital bills to patients.
The speaker, who settled bills worth over N3 million at Mercy Hospital Abak, thanked the medical director, for his humanitarian services, saying that the medical director performance was beyond hospital services.
He also appreciated him for the warmth reception given him and his entourage.
The speaker who also visited General Hospital Abak was received by the Medical Director Dr. Udene Ette, who identified some problems in the hospital and requested government’s intervention and assistance. Ette, while conducting the speaker around some wards in the hospital, appreciated the speaker and his wife for selecting the his hospital for the visit, saying that the visit has rekindled the hope of patients. He thanks the speaker for offsetting bills worth millions of naira adding that such was the big relief to the patients and the hospital.
In his speech, the General Hospital the speaker said that the general hospital was one of the best hospitals in the state.
He said his visit to the hospital was part of the activities marking his birthday celebration which he decided to use the summer to visit hospitals in order to upset bills of patients who couldn’t pay their bills.
