FIRS Boss Faults PDP Youths’ Claim On Oyo 2027 Guber Ambition
Sunday Aborisade in Abuja
The Special Adviser on Media to Mr. Zacch Adedeji, the Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr. Dare Adekanmbi, has dismissed allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Coalition for Good Governance against his boss as frivolous.
The youths had alleged that the FIRS boss was preoccupied with his ambition to contest the Oyo State governorship election in 2027.
The youths had claimed that Adedeji has not declared his governorship ambition yet, but insisted that he was nursing one.
They made the allegations at a news conference addressed by Ikemba Chidozie, convener of the group, in Abuja.
However, Adekanmbi, the Special Adviser on Media to the FIRS Chairman, dismissed the PDP youths’ allegations as reckless and frivolous.
Adekanmbi, in a chat with THISDAY in Abuja said: “They are not speaking the truth. They claimed that the FIRS boss doesn’t stay in the office which is not correct.
“This is a man who has not even travelled outside the country in the last five months. They should not just level allegations. They should provide proofs.”
Chidozie, the convener of the group, had noted that the FIRS remained the cornerstone of Nigeria’s revenue system which must be taken seriously.
He had alleged: “His (Adedeji) preoccupation with his 2027 gubernatorial ambitions in Oyo State could lead to neglect of duty.
“He must decide whether he wants to serve as Executive Chairman of the FIRS or focus on his political ambitions in Oyo State.
“The time for excuses and half measures has long passed. Nigeria cannot afford a leader who treats public office as a stepping stone for personal ambitions.”
