The federal government yesterday reiterated its commitment to an uninterrupted power supply with the inauguration of 63MBA, 142/33KV Mobile Substations at Sapade and University of Ibadan in Ogun and Oyo states respectively.

The project was executed by the FGN Power Company, in collaboration with Siemens Energy.

The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, while speaking at the inauguration of the projects described it as a significant milestone in the implementation of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) aimed at modernising Nigeria’s power infrastructure.

According to him, “The commissioning of these mobile substations is a testament to our commitment to delivering reliable and sustainable power to all Nigerians.

“This project aligns with the federal government’s vision to modernize Nigeria’s power sector and improve the quality of life for our citizens. We are proud to be part of this transformative initiative.

“These Mobile Substations, along with other equipment undergoing installation under the Pilot Phase of the PPI, represent a strategic deployment aimed at improving the transmission capacity constraints by over 1300MW across the nation.”

In his address, the Managing Director/CEO of FGN Power Company, Mr. Kenny Anuwe, said the achievement underscores the dedication of the federal government to provide innovative solutions to Nigeria’s power challenges.

He maintained that by strategically deploying these mobile substations, the FGN Power Company is addressing critical infrastructure gaps and enhancing the overall power system’s capacity and reliability.

“We are committed to continuing our efforts to deliver reliable and affordable power to all Nigerians. This particular substation, located at the University of Ibadan, holds special significance. It will not only improve power supply to the university but also to the surrounding communities. By providing a more stable and efficient power supply, we are empowering students, faculty, and staff to excel in their academic and research endeavors.

“Power Transformer Installations: FGN Power Company has successfully installed, energized, and commissioned eight Power Transformers, contributing an additional 569.6 MW to the transmission network.

“Mobile Substation Deployments: Five Mobile Substations have been successfully deployed at Ajah, Jebba, Kwanar Dangora, University of Ibadan, and Saapade, adding 252 MW to the grid.

“Overall, these efforts have resulted in a substantial 821.6 MW increase to the national grid’s transmission capacity.

“The newly commissioned substations are part of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), a comprehensive plan to modernize and expand Nigeria’s power infrastructure. This initiative aims to address the nation’s power challenges and ensure a reliable and sustainable power supply for all Nigerians,” he said.

The MD/CEO, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Mr. Francis Agoha, on his part, assured its customers of the Company’s commitment to uninterrupted power supply, stating that the commissioning of the substation at the University of Ibadan would further boost transmission of the electricity in the affected areas.
