Uba Sani’s Kaduna as Model of Interfaith Harmony

By Nasir Dambatta

In a state often defined by its religious diversity, Governor Uba Sani is rewriting the narrative of Kaduna, transforming it into a model of unity and interfaith harmony.

This week, his historic participation in two pivotal religious events—the 2024 Kaduna Unity Christmas Carol and the Maulud celebration in Zaria—underscored his visionary leadership in bridging divides and fostering peace among the people of the State.

The Christmas Carol, held at the ECWA Goodnews Church in Narayi Highcost, Kaduna, and organized by the Kaduna Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), was a celebration of love, joy, and togetherness. Governor Uba Sani’s presence, alongside Christian faithful, sent a clear message: Kaduna’s government is committed to embracing and celebrating the diversity that strengthens its social fabric. The event featured hymns, prayers, and messages of hope that resonated with the Governor’s vision for a harmonious society. In his address, he emphasized the importance of mutual respect, urging citizens to see religious diversity as an asset rather than a barrier.

Just a day later, the Governor joined the Maulud celebration in Zaria, hosted by the Fityanul Islam group. This gathering, commemorating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), was a profound moment of reflection and prayer, attracting religious leaders, scholars, and dignitaries from across Kaduna State. The event highlighted the Prophet’s teachings on compassion, tolerance, and peace—values that are central to the Governor’s governance philosophy. Governor Sani not only participated but also addressed the gathering, calling for deeper collaboration between religious groups to promote a united Kaduna.

These dual events symbolize more than mere participation; they epitomize the Governor’s vision of an inclusive Kaduna where all faiths coexist peacefully. His administration has become a rallying point for religious leaders and communities, proving that unity is not just possible—it is achievable with purposeful leadership. Over the past year, Governor Sani has initiated several programs aimed at fostering interfaith dialogue, ensuring that citizens of all religions feel included in Kaduna’s development agenda.

Under his watch, Kaduna State has witnessed a dramatic shift from a history of tension to a climate of understanding and collaboration. Faith-based leaders have praised his consistent efforts to address historical grievances, build trust, and prioritize fairness in government decisions. His administration has championed policies that protect places of worship, encourage interfaith cooperation, and create platforms for dialogue among religious groups.

Governor Sani’s bold steps in attending and supporting both Christian and Muslim celebrations illustrate his unwavering commitment to a Kaduna built on mutual respect and shared progress. His leadership has inspired citizens to move beyond stereotypes and embrace the humanity that binds them together. As religious leaders and citizens unite under his leadership, Kaduna is emerging as a model for interfaith harmony, inspiring hope for a future free from division and defined by unity.

In Kaduna today, Governor Uba Sani has not just bridged the gap between religions; he has laid a foundation for enduring peace, setting a new standard for leadership in a pluralistic society. His actions reaffirm that diversity is not a challenge to overcome but a strength to celebrate. The Christmas Carol and the Maulud celebration are more than events—they are milestones in a transformative journey towards a Kaduna where unity, trust, and progress define its future.

With Governor Sani’s leadership, Kaduna stands as a shining example of what is possible when inclusivity is embraced and diversity is celebrated. His actions this week serve as a powerful reminder that harmony is achievable, and his legacy will undoubtedly shape a more united and prosperous Kaduna for generations to come.
