In the spirit of giving, former lawmaker Legor Idagbo has embarked on a heartwarming initiative to provide free rides to his constituents in Bekwara, Cross River State. This generous gesture, which kicked off on Monday, December 23, 2024, is aimed at easing the transportation burden for those traveling home for Christmas.
The two-day free ride exercise, which will run until Tuesday, December 24, 2024, has brought joy to numerous beneficiaries who gathered at the Mararaba Sharp Corner Motor Park as early as 6:30 am. Augustine Ogar, President of the Bekwara Development Association, expressed gratitude to Idagbo, stating that the former lawmaker’s annual sponsorship has been a significant blessing, especially during the festive season.
This year’s exercise is particularly significant, given the prevailing economic hardship in the country. The free ride initiative has been extended to 20 villages within the constituency, including communities in Afrike Ochiagbe and Afrike Okpeche. Beneficiaries like Okwuta Theresa, who is traveling with her baby, are thrilled to receive this gesture, especially considering the steep transportation costs this year.
Theresa, who has never received such an offer before, praised Idagbo’s kindness, saying, “I pray God to continue blessing our Honourable Legor, he shall continue to move from one position to another higher position so the masses will continue to benefit from his good gesture”.
Barrister Benjamin Adeh, another beneficiary from Afrike1, echoed similar sentiments, expressing surprise and gratitude for Idagbo’s generosity. This initiative is a testament to Idagbo’s commitment to empowering his constituents, even after leaving office.
“The exercise is very good, our sponsor Honourable Legor has been very useful to us especially in festive period like this, annually he sponsor indigenes of Bekwara. And this year’s exercise is particularly good because of the prevailing hardship in the country. So we are here at Sharp Corner Park and passengers are already on ground as you can see. By the grace of God they will soon take off. The excited faces of the passengers would tell you how so very much appreciative they are for the good gesture. Let me tell you that this covers about 20 villages because I also had to include both Afrike Ochiagbe and Afrike Okpeche” he said.
Clutching her baby in one of the vehicles, Okwuta Theresa, one of the beneficiaries expressed excitement saying that this is the first time she got the slot to travel free of charge during yuletide season.
Theresa said she is particularly excited because this year’s transport fare is way too high at 30,000, a journey of about 15,000 last year.
“I was shocked when they I heard the price they are charging when I arrived here. So you can imagined how happy I was when they gave me the offer. I pray God to continue blessing our Honourable Legor, he shall continue to move from one position to another higher position so the masses will continue to benefit from his good gesture” she said.
Also speaking Barrister Benjamin Adeh, who hails from Afrike1, said he never expected it when the news came, praying that God would reward the Honourable Legor for always coming through for the people of his constituency.
As the festive season continues, Idagbo’s selfless act serves as a reminder of the importance of giving back to the community.
His legacy as a dedicated public servant continues to inspire hope and positivity among the people of Bekwara.
