Aliyu Flags Off Distribution of Fertilizer, Inputs for Dry Season Farming in Sokoto

The Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, has flagged off free distribution of fertilizer and farm inputs for the 2024/ 2025 dry season farming season.
According to the governor, each of the 23 local government areas in the state would get three trucks to enhance food security and generation of employment and revenue.
Aliyu warned those handling the distribution of the products across the state to be responsible because they will be held accountable for any abnormality in the exercise.
He implored youths in the state to embrace agriculture for self-reliance, stressing that the state has comparative advantage in the production of some crops in the country.
The governor said that the gesture was to boost food production and ensure food security in the state.
He added that his administration would remain focused in ensuring that agricultural potential is fully harnessed in the state.
The governor noted that the state would continue to work with federal and international donors for the development of agriculture sector.
He also disclosed that contract has been awarded for the rehabilitation of Lungun Dam in Wurno LGA for irrigation development.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Bello Wamakko, said that the importance of fertilizer to food security could not be overemphasized, hence the need for the exercise.
On his part, the Senator representing Sokoto North senatorial district and leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Aliyu Wamakko, commended Governor Aliyu for his foresight in prioritising the needs of farmers in the state
