Kano, KSADP Establish Milk Collection Centres to Address Herders’ Crisis

Kano State Government under Kano State Agro-postoral Development project, has established five Milk Collection Centres at Falgore town, Doguwa Local Government Area of the state.


The five centres would serve as a platform that would provide a stable source of income to Fulani herdsmen and reduce their reliance on nomadic grazing.
An official of the centre, Ibrahim Wada made the disclosure while briefing journalists yesterday at one of the milk collection centres in Falgore town, Doguwa LGA of the state.


He said the project which was financed by the Islamic Development Bank with support from Kano State Government, was aimed at providing clean milk for sale to companies producing yogurt in Kano, Kaduna and other neigbouring states.
“The five Centres are part of the 100 Milk Collection Centres being constructed and equipped across milk producing communities in Kano State.


“Each centre is equipped with 550 litre milk storage tank and its accessories, solar powered borehole, toilet facility, solar lightings and office, “ the official said.
One of the beneficiaries, Mallam Musa Adamu, maintained that when the project is completed, each of the centre will create employment opportunities for local communities, contributing to poverty reduction among Fulani communities.

“We are going to see an increased in milk production by providing a market for milk, our people may be incentivised to increase their milk production, leading to economic growth in Kano State and Nigeria in general.
