Finance Minister Praises Adeniyi, emphasizes Customs’ vital role in achieving FG’s 2025 budget
Mr. Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, has lauded the Nigerian Customs Service’s performance under the leadership of Comptroller-General Wale Adeniyi.
Edun specifically acknowledged the Service’s essential contribution to Nigeria’s economic recovery as the federal government aims for a ₦49 trillion expenditure in 2025.
He underscored the significance of the NCS during the agency’s 61st quarterly board meeting at the Customs House in Maitama, Abuja. This meeting followed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s introduction of the 2025 budget, dubbed “A Budget of Restoration.”
The budget anticipates ₦35 trillion in revenue, with the NCS expected to play a crucial role. Mr. Edun noted the agency’s impressive performance, revealing it had generated over ₦5 trillion by November 2024.
“The NCS and other revenue agencies have performed exceptionally well,” he stated, attributing this success to the reforms initiated by President Tinubu.
The minister also mentioned plans for the government to secure concessionary loans, grants, and development aid to cover the remaining ₦13 trillion.
Additionally, he indicated that the board reviewed the NCS’s achievements for 2024, approving the recruitment of 3,927 officers and special promotions for top performers to enhance trade facilitation.
“The NCS has excelled in combating smuggling and promoting trade, which are vital for growth and job creation,” he remarked.
Mr. Edun concluded by encouraging Customs officers to stay dedicated to national objectives, highlighting the agency’s role in poverty alleviation and economic development.
