Christmas Relief for 267 People – CAIN Africa Distributes Food Packages to 50 Families
As Nigeria grapples with soaring inflation and a poverty rate affecting over 89 million people, families across the country are facing unprecedented challenges in meeting basic needs.
Thus, various organisations have been responding to this critical situation. Among them is CAIN Africa during its 2024 Christmas Benevolence Programme (CBP). It brought much-needed relief and joy to 267 individuals from 50 underprivileged families, thanks to a successful fundraising effort of over N6.665m ($4,444) supported by community contributions and corporate partnerships.
The event, held on December 14 at the CAIN Educational Resource Centre in Alimosho—Lagos’ largest underserved community—was designed to ease the burden on struggling families, ensuring they could celebrate the holiday season without worry.
Each of the 50 families received a comprehensive food package designed to provide sustenance well beyond the Christmas season.
The items are tailored to the average family size of five. The packages were designed to sustain households for up to two months, covering both Christmas and New Year festivities.
A particularly moving moment during the event occurred when beneficiaries were invited to guess the contents of their food packages.
Their underestimations gave way to genuine surprise and gratitude upon discovering the full extent of the items provided.
Many were overcome with emotion, and a few were brought to tears of joy. This scene powerfully illustrated the profound impact such a program has on families facing economic hardship.
Contributions from corporate sponsors elevated the event, adding festive touches and creating an atmosphere of togetherness. Drinks, festive snacks, and treats were generously provided, while professional photographers captured the day’s heartwarming moments, ensuring that the joy of the day would be cherished for years to come.
“The 2024 Christmas Benevolence Program was a testament to the transformative power of unity and compassion. Through the generous support of corporate partners, individual donors, and selfless volunteers, CAIN Africa didn’t just distribute gifts—we ignited hope, celebrated resilience, and showcased the unbreakable strength of the community.
“This programme reminds us that when we come together with purpose, we can create ripples of change that touch lives in profound ways.” – May Asagba, the Founder and CEO.
By meeting both immediate and long-term needs, CAIN Africa continues to demonstrate its commitment to uplifting underprivileged families and fostering a spirit of togetherness during challenging times.
