Rising Star OVIEL discusses journey, set to Elevate Afrobeats with New music video

Raymond Emamezi Okoro, better known as OVIEL, is a new force in the Afrobeats music scene. With roots in Ughelli, Delta State, OVIEL’s story is one of resilience, evolution, and unrelenting passion for music. Now based in the United Kingdom, he continues to push boundaries, blending cultural heritage with global influences to create a sound uniquely his own.

“My parents’ love for 80s music, from RnB to Rock, gave me an unrestricted appreciation for music,” he shared. Inspired by a cousin’s lyric book, OVIEL began experimenting with songwriting in the early 2000s. His professional career launched with his 2012 single, Mama Roll, which he released under his former stage name “Rae’Em”.

OVIEL describes his sound as Afro-fusion, blending Afrobeats with global influences and a touch of Isoko heritage. “That’s the sauce,” he said. His discography includes nine singles and three EPs, the latest being III, released on November 3, 2024.

Despite challenges, OVIEL has stayed committed, supported by a strong network. “I’ve quit before, but now I’m doing this because I genuinely enjoy it,” he said. Looking ahead, he dreams of one day becoming a worldwide name.

Fans can anticipate the video for elevation from his EP III, set to drop sometime this month. “It’s a beautiful video for a song that’s getting a lot of love,” he shared.
