Refuge Network International Feeds over 1000 homeless on the Streets of Lagos

Refuge Network International (RNI) a.k.a. Refuge Charitable Network Nigeria (RCNN) once again makes a profound impact with its Feed the Homeless campaign. Held on January 8, 2025, the outreach spanned key locations across Lagos, including Ikotun, Igando, Egbeda, Iyana Ipaja, and Agege. The initiative provided hundreds of homeless individuals with nutritious meals, including jollof rice and drinks, ensuring their energy needs were met.

This campaign reached a diverse demographic of homeless individuals, cutting across age, gender and religion. A dedicated service to individuals who are underserved, living in undignified conditions, such as open streets, under bridges, and, for some, without any identifiable place to call home. Our vibrant and passionate volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure equitable food distribution while maintaining decorum and order across all five areas, forestalling any incident of stampede.

The Feed the Homeless campaign marks RNI’S third significant charitable initiative this year, following a previous street house-to-house outreach and an economic empowerment grant program for struggling business owners and the unemployed. Despite the challenges of the season and concerns about the safety of similar events, RNI, together with over 30 dedicated volunteers, ensured the campaign’s success by employing innovative strategies to meet the community’s needs efficiently.

This effort is a proactive reflection of RNI’s broader mission: to alleviate poverty and promote access to essential needs such as food, healthcare, education, and dignified living. Beyond the distribution of meals, the true success of this campaign lies in the smiles and gratitude of the beneficiaries, who experienced a rare moment of comfort and care.

As RNI celebrates this milestone in its fourth year of operation, the impact of its initiatives continues to grow. The organization remains steadfast in its commitment to combatting social injustice, empowering marginalized communities, and alleviating human suffering. Through the promotion of Economic and Social Rights (ESR), RNI and RCNN plan to extend their reach to millions, one collaborative campaign at a time.
