Seyi Tinubu: A Phoenix Rising – Our APC National Youth Wing Young Person of the Year 2024

By Dr. Dayo Israel

When disaster struck Borno State last December, it drew widespread attention and support from Nigeria’s top philanthropists and leaders. From captains of industry to political figures, the city of Maiduguri became a rallying point for collective action. Among the many who responded, one name stood out for His quiet determination and thoughtful approach, Seyi Tinubu.

Mobilizing his network, Seyi brought tangible relief to displaced families, offering both financial assistance and essential supplies. His efforts went beyond charity, embodying a sense of duty and empathy. This was not an isolated act but part of a larger pattern of contributions that began long before his father assumed the presidency.

I have seen firsthand Seyi’s consistent and impactful contributions to humanity over the years. Even before his father ascended to the lofty position of Commander-in-Chief, he demonstrated a deep commitment to social good. One example is his endless support for monthly food interventions in Lagos communities through FoodClique, which operated in my neighborhood in Ebute Metta under the leadership of the late Bolajoko. His quiet but effective support has always been a source of inspiration to many.

Seyi Tinubu has consistently shown a commitment to addressing pressing social needs, often preferring action over docility. His work through initiatives like the Noella Foundation reflects a deep-rooted belief in community-driven change. From supporting food security to empowering youth through education and entrepreneurship, his efforts speak to a vision of sustainable impact.

A trained lawyer with degrees in Law and Corporate & Commercial Law from the University of Buckingham, Seyi has combined his professional background with entrepreneurial ventures, including his role as CEO of Loatsad Promomedia Ltd. Yet, his entrepreneurial success is just one facet of his identity; his greater passion lies in using his resources and influence to uplift others.

For many years, he has used his influence to support good causes through numerous organizations, including Sonia Agu’s Sapio Club and other foundations. These platforms have allowed him to extend his reach, touching lives across various sectors. Whether it’s mentoring young entrepreneurs or sponsoring initiatives that address pressing societal needs, Seyi has consistently shown that leadership is about service.

The Noella Foundation, named after his daughter, has become a platform for addressing critical issues like girl-child education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation. Its flagship initiative, the Seyi Tinubu Empowerment Project (STEP), equips young Nigerians with the skills and resources needed to thrive in a digital economy, fostering innovation and resilience.

Seyi’s recent visit to Maiduguri, where he donated over ₦500 million in aid for flood victims, exemplifies his approach to leadership—one that prioritizes collaboration and swift action. Addressing Governor Babagana Zulum and other stakeholders, he emphasized the importance of collective effort in rebuilding lives and communities.

I have also witnessed how his interventions extend to health and education. His support for projects such as the Infant and Maternal Healthcare Intervention at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) and the scholarship scheme for pediatric residency doctors is a testament to his belief in systemic change. Beyond these, his philanthropic acts—like offsetting medical bills for indigent patients, all highlight his drive to bring relief to those who need it most.

Now in the corridors of power, he has not reneged in using his influence and access to improve the lives of many, young and old. He leaves not just his name on the mouths of many but his memories in the hearts of millions who might otherwise be forgotten.

Seyi’s actions underscore a broader philosophy: using one’s platform for the greater good. His approach avoids grandstanding, focusing instead on meaningful and lasting contributions. In an era where influence is often equated with visibility, his preference for understated service sets him apart.

As Nigeria navigates complex social and economic challenges, Young People like Seyi Tinubu remind us of the potential for individuals to drive change, not through power alone but through purpose and perseverance. His journey is not about perfection but progress, and it is this quiet resilience that continues to inspire hope in those he serves.

In Light of this, the APC National Youth Wing is delighted to announce Mr Seyi Tinubu as our Young Person of the Year 2024 as part of our Progressives Young Leaders Award. He would be honoured at an event to be announced soon.
