He noted that East and West African region, have faced similar challenges, and had learned valuable lessons in collaboration, intelligence sharing, and community engagement.
He said the theme of the conference “Leveraging Regional Policing Capabilities to Promote Law Enforcement Cooperation in The Fight Against Terrorism And Transnational Organised Crimes,” resonated deeply with their experiences.
Egbetokun highlighted three key areas where both regions had made significant progress to include, enhanced intelligence sharing, capacity building and community engagement.
“We’ve established a robust Intelligence sharing mechanism which enables a member state to share critical information and assess information shared by other member states.
“This has enhanced coordination of efforts in combating terrorism and organized crimes. This robust mechanism is known as the West African Police Information System (WAPIS).
“It utilises data analytics to collate, analyze and share crime data across the West African states and globally through INTERPOL’s I-24/7.”
