Abia Lawmaker Offers Scholarship to 1,200 Students

The lawmaker representing Bende North Constituency in Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Nnamdi Chimdi Ibekwe, has provided scholarships for over 1, 200 secondary school students for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and ICT training.
The initiative under his Oziomachi Foundation specifically covers 1,100 on ICT training, school fees for 81 students, 20 children’s basic education and 1, 200 secondary school students for WASSCE.
Ibekwe explained that the project is in commemoration of his beloved mother for the foundation she laid in training him and the teacher who taught him in school and gave him the privilege of extra mural classes in her house free of charge.
He said: “If you are living without a purpose, life would be meaningless. This education is a great investment.”
The Abia lawmaker lamented that the inability of some parents to pay their wards school fees has made education seem less lucrative.
“We are here to provide funds and change that narrative because it’s through education that people will succeed in life. We are also doing this as our contribution towards achieving the objectives of Universal Basic Education.
“The charter stipulates that there should not be any child with education and that funds shouldn’t be enough reasons for not attaining education.
“Our vision is to ensure that every child is educated in Igbere land. We have just registered 31 students for the First School Leaving Certificate Examination and truly I don’t personally know them but it’s the good works of the Oziomachi Foundation. It is a good thing that neighbouring villages around the town are silently copying Igbere’s good works.”
He however, explained that the foundation embarked on the project in fulfillment of the Scriptures, because education is good; through it, one gets understanding and wisdom.
“Last April, I adopted 112 children for sponsorship. The entire Bende North from Item to Igbere and Alayi are enjoying the Oziomachi Foundation to ensure that there is no child left behind in terms of education even up to the university level.
“Our dream is to provide education for everyone in our constituency and it should be on record that our constituency would be known as the highest literacy rate not just in Abia State, Nigeria, but across Africa and globally,” he said.
