According to an online publication,
Namibia made history as the first African country to have both a female president and the vice president in office.
“The country is making history with a leadership shift from a previously male dominated political structure to arrangement that puts women at the forefront of governance.
“For the first time, Netumbo Nandi-Neditwah, Vice President Lucia Witbooi and Speaker of the National Assembly, Saara Kuugongelwa Amadhila have made history, making Namibia the first African country with women leading at this level.
“Netumbo Nandi- Ndaitwah was sworn in as Namibia first female president on March 21st, a significant milestone for the country. She previously served as vice president, stepping into the role of in February 2024 following the passage of former president Hagie Gengob.
“The shift according to the online publication as quoted by HRM Amb. Ihenetu extends beyond the presidency.
“Of the 14 ministers appointed by Nandi-Ndaitwah, more than 60 per cent are women holding key positions in finance, foreign affairs, health, education, and gender equality. This is the first time Namibia cabinet has had a female majority.
“I thus call on African leaders to learn from example of political development in Namibia by giving more leadership role to women. This development could be the game changer and magic wand that could librate the continent from shackle of bad governance with terrible results of poverty and corruption.”
