The Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe has explained that the GreenMyStreet Abuja campaign was aimed at creating a sustainable ecosystem that propels a climate smart economy, improves public health, and safeguards the environment.
She added that by engaging over 620,000 eco-citizens and building a comprehensive recycling infrastructure, the initiative was laying the groundwork for a zero waste future that benefits all layers of society.
Kingibe who serves as Deputy Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Climate Change noted that the GreenMyStreet Abuja launched recently was not just about cleaner streets but about creating a sustainable ecosystem through circular economy opportunities.
She also threw her weight behind the Development2RUHOPE which is a Pan-Abuja sustainable development accelerator platform dedicated to mobilising community-based social inclusion and impact investment programs.
Giving an insight on the initiative, the Director General of the 2RUHOPE Development Initiative, Mr. Victor Agih, stressed that the synergy between global waste reduction imperatives and local action plan was pivotal to the next generation of green jobs, green finance and green innovation.
He said: “Our integrated approach, from digital ecotokens, Waste to Clean Cooking solutions and ecomobility programs, Fast tracks the SDG 12 targets through the first National Climate smart recycling festival, harnesses community power and innovation, setting a new standard for urban sustainability and circular economies in Abuja.”
“The GreenMyStreet Abuja Campaign is a flagship effort that demonstrates how localied actions can contribute to tackling the global waste crisis.
“By fostering a circular economy, the campaign not only reduces environmental pollution but also generates significant economic opportunities, drives social inclusion, and creates pathways for sustainable development across Abuja’s diverse communities.”
Agih said with a focus on creating socio-economic opportunities and a greener urban future, 2RUHOPE Development leads transformative initiatives like GreenMyStreet Abuja under the larger GreenMeIRETI Project.
