NMGS Welcomes Rose Chundung Ndong as 33rd President, Ushering in a New Era of Innovation in the Mineral, Energy & Geosciences Sectors

The Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) has officially welcomed Ms. Rose Chundung Ndong (FNMGS) as its 33rd President, marking the beginning of a transformative era for Nigeria’s mineral, energy, and geosciences sectors. Ms. Ndong assumed office following her election at the Society’s Diamond Jubilee Annual International Conference & Exhibition, which took place from February 16–21, 2025, at the Chida International Hotel, Abuja. The conference, themed “Transformation of the Mineral, Energy, Water, and Construction Sectors through Innovations,” served as a platform for advancing discussions on sustainable and innovative solutions in the industry.
With a career spanning several decades in geosciences, mining, and energy, Ms. Ndong brings extensive expertise and leadership to her new role. Prior to her election, she held various executive positions within the NMGS Council, most recently serving as Vice President. Her tenure in these roles has been marked by a strong commitment to advancing the Society’s strategic objectives and advocating for the growth and sustainability of Nigeria’s extractive industries.
Reaffirming her commitment to the Society’s mission, Ms. Ndong emphasized the need for transformative advancements, stating:
“Our focus will be on transformative innovations—leveraging science, technology, and policy frameworks to unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s mineral and energy sectors. Together, we will build a resilient ecosystem that benefits both professionals and the nation.”
A statement signed by Chairman of the Installation Committee, Dr. Matthew Oyedokun, underscored the significance of Ms. Ndong’s leadership at this crucial time for the industry. He expressed confidence in her ability to steer the Society toward greater achievements, highlighting the importance of collaboration among stakeholders.
The NMGS calls upon all stakeholders—government agencies, industry leaders, academia, and international partners—to join in the effort to drive progress and innovation in the sector.
