Urban Hustle Screened at British Council Lagos

On Sunday 30th of March 2025, the British Council Lagos hosted a special screening of Urban Hustle, a documentary directed and cinematographed by Adetayo Adebowale, also known as Diwizad. Produced by Film Lab Africa participant Lucy Adikwu, Urban Hustle captures the resilience and struggles of everyday Lagosians who make a living on the streets, shedding light on their challenges and unwavering determination.

The screening was part of an industry event that also featured Patrick: The Slave of Ireland, a documentary by award-winning filmmaker Ruan Megan. A post-screening discussion provided an opportunity for meaningful exchanges between filmmakers and industry leaders.

In attendance were veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Sodimu, several prominent filmmakers, executives from British Council Arts Nigeria, and cinema lovers eager to engage with thought-provoking African narratives.

Adebowale, a multi-talented filmmaker with a background spanning photography, cinematography, directing, and visual effects, is no stranger to impactful storytelling. With collaborations that include Toyota UAE, Al Jazeera, British Council Film Lab, and Empire Music, he has consistently pushed the boundaries of African cinema. His work with Superlady Studios reflects a deep commitment to original, culturally rich narratives, following the success of his previous documentary Not Just Pretty, But Pretty Powerful, which
highlights the empowerment of young girls.

For Adebowale, Urban Hustle is just the beginning. His upcoming sci-fi short film is set for an international festival run in the last quarter of 2025, further cementing his place as a visionary storyteller dedicated to reshaping the African Narratives.
