A Voice for the Voiceless: Adetoun Onajobi’s Humanitarian Quest

Adetoun Onajobi is a prominent Nigerian activist and humanitarian with over 20 years of experience and a PhD in Social Work. She leads the Feed a Child Community Initiative, an NGO dedicated to feeding, educating, and uplifting children and families affected by poverty and abuse. Her work emphasises dignity, empathy, and systemic change, providing safe houses, vocational training, therapy, and mentorship for vulnerable groups.

The Feed a Child Initiative also runs community kitchens to combat hunger, aiming to establish 20 kitchens feeding 100,000 children annually. It empowers families by creating sustainable food businesses while addressing malnutrition. Adetoun’s impact has earned her awards like Woman of Distinction and Most Outstanding Humanitarian of the Year.

Onajobi’s advocacy gained national attention following her compassionate response to a child labour case in Lagos, where she supported a struggling mother financially while highlighting systemic poverty. Her efforts are deeply rooted in her Christian faith and mentorship under Prophet T.B. Joshua.

Her compassionate response on March 31, 2025, exemplifies her unwavering commitment to justice and systemic change. Witnessing a mother earning N19,500 monthly and her 11-year-old daughter sweeping the streets of Ikoyi at dawn, Onajobi chose empathy over judgment.

She said she provided financial support and rallied her community to address the root causes of poverty, stating, “Sometimes, a system fails people so deeply, survival becomes the only plan.”

Beyond activism, she uses creative platforms like her stage play African Values to empower young girls with cultural pride and dignity.

Over the years, Onajobi has received numerous accolades, including the Woman of Distinction Award and the Most Outstanding Humanitarian of the Year.

While these honours reflect her impact, she measures success differently. “If one’s life changes for the better, then we are doing something right,” she often says.

In a nation burdened by silence and hardship, voices like Onajobi’s are indispensable. She is not just a truth-teller but a problem-solver, unafraid to confront injustice with boldness and compassion.

Her actions go beyond words—she moves with purpose, bridging the gap for those unable to stand for themselves. Onajobi is not merely an advocate; she is a symbol of hope and transformation in Nigeria’s humanitarian landscape.
