Owu-Ikosi Agog as Merry Gold Water Donates Borehole to Community

The people of Owu-Ikosi, a popular community in Ikosi – Ejinrin Local Council Development Area, Agbowa, Ikosi, Lagos, have been gifted a borehole courtesy of a non-governmental organization, Merry Gold Water Project.

The project, the second in three years according to Merry Gold Water, was part of efforts to contribute to the development of the community and also to reduce the burden of the people of the town.

Speaking during the official inauguration of the water project, Chairman/CEO of the United Kingdom-based organization, Prince Akeem Olugbenga Adenuga, who spoke via Zoom, said the idea of building boreholes for vulnerable Lagos communities came when he realised that residents of these developing communities lacked potable drinking water.

He added that he had such terrible experiences while growing up in the community, and therefore, decided to bridge the gap and fill the lacuna by building the water project.

Adenuga stated further that he is using the Merry Gold Water Project as a platform to reach out to people by providing potable water and also improve the health of the people.

” While growing up, we used to travel far from home to fetch water, and that was very rigorous then. Now, we are in a jet age, there is no need to travel far from home to fetch water.

“In 2021, we constructed the first borehole for the people of Odo Ayandelu town. The water project has helped over 2000 residents of the town, and now they have access to water daily.

“Having fulfilled the dream, we decided to extend the gesture to the people of Owu-Ikosi, another neighbouring community, and that is how Merry Gold will be doing”, he said.

Prince Adenuga maintained also that the Owu-Ikosi water project will serve over 3000 people in the community, adding that, though power supply had been erratic in the community, Merry Gold would power the water project with Solar so that the people of the community will benefit from the gesture.

Adenuga, who expressed appreciation to some of the donors abroad, stressed that he was fulfilled that some eminent people had shared in his vision to provide water for the people, and he is happy now that the dream is coming to pass.

He also charged the residents of the town to see the project as their asset by putting it to good use, stressing that with the kind of support and donations Merry Gold Water can access, other developing communities in Lagos State will also benefit from the gesture.

The Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area, Hon. Wale Raji Anomo, represented by his Chief of Staff, Prince Wale Gberefu, thanked Merry Gold Water for the gesture.

He assured that Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA will continue to support any idea and initiative that is geared towards improving the lives of the people of the area.

The Royal Father of the day, Olowu of Owu-Ikosi, Oba Nelson Ogunlari, who expressed appreciation to all the team and management of Merry Gold Water Project, immediately appointed two prominent Chiefs of the town to oversee the maintenance of the water project for the benefit of the people.

” Today, I am overwhelmed by this gesture. I remember the day my brother, Prince Adenuga, inaugurated the water project at Odo-Ayandelu. I told Kabiyesi, Oba Ganiyu Asunmo Aderibigbe, that I also want this project in my town, and Kabiyesi said I should consider it done.

“Today, I am happy that we are all alive to witness this milestone. I pray to God to continue to bless Merry Gold and all the people that have contributed in one way or the other to ensure that this water project is successful”, the monarch stated.

In his remarks, the Alayandelu of Odo-Ayandelu, Oba Aderibigbe Asunmo, said the gesture embarked on by Merry Gold was for the good of humanity.

He, therefore, commended all the donors that contributed towards the success of the project.

“We are all part of this success story. Thanks to Merry Gold, and it is our responsibility as royal fathers to see the water project as our project.

I believe if we can maintain this facility, in the next few years, we are going to witness another great project in the community”, Oba Aderibigbe stated.

Expressing her appreciation on behalf of the women of Owu-Ikosi, the Iyaloja Kajola, Chief Mrs Bimpe Adebonajo, said the community women will do their best to help in the maintenance of the facility.

” We are very happy that Merry Gold considered the people of Owu Ikosi as beneficiaries of this water project. We will not disappoint the management, and I want to assure them that we will make good use of the facility”, she stated.

Speaking on future projects, public relations officer Prince Obafemi Adesanya said Merry Gold will soon embark on other water projects in other communities.
